Recently, I decided to start reading all those 'classic' novels that I didn't read in high school. You may or may not know this, but I went to the world's easiest high school. Did homework once in my 4 years there. Thought I must be brilliant (until I went to college and reality set in).

Anyway, we didn't ever read the classic novels that everyone else seems to have read. I feel left out. So, I am reading them now. Some of them I have picked up in the past (The Jungle, Pride and Prejudice, The Odyssey, Catcher in the Rye), but I went out and got a Barnes and Nobles membership, and they have the classics for about $5 a piece, plus my discount, so it is pretty easy to do.

Now I have read Emma, Jane Eyre....and more. I am currently working on the Count of Monte Cristo, which I am really enjoying...although he introduces all the characters in the beginning by their first names, and when you meet them all again later in the book, he only refers to them by their titles (count, baron, etc), so I have a hard time figuring out who everyone is sometimes. But still entertaining. It would make a good movie. Actually, I think it *has* already made a good miniseries (available in italian, which I sadly enough do not speak). Anyway.

Any classics that I *must* read??

I am also still working on geneology stuff. Did you know that there is a Steve Fiero born in Texas in 1978?? I do, because he comes up when I look for info on *our* Steve Fiero. I am sadly lacking on the Cooper side of the family, and also on the Couch's.....so any info you have is greatly appreciated.

Alyca - good for you to start reading classics!

It depends on what types of stories that you like for me to recommend any must reads. I have found that my favorites are 1984 by Orwell, Silas Marner by Eliot, and My Antonia by Cather.

If you are interested, I keep a blog about classic novels at http://www.classicnovelsblog.com. I think that you will find that it relates to this blog post!
