Yeah, yeah yeah....

Yes, Ethan is home. Yes, he is in one piece. Yes, he took lots of pictures. No, I am not posting any today. I haven't even SEEN all of them yet. I am still enjoying Ethan just being home. AND...we have been very busy trying to catch up on Battlestar Galactica before the next episode on Friday (we have 3 more episodes to watch), and LOST on Wednesday (2 more episodes left to watch), and we had football on Sunday, and we work all week. BUT...I will eventually show some of his pictures. No editing, just a crop or two, or a teeny edit to lighten up. I don't feel that comfortable messing with pictures I did not take.

Okay....at first I thought this was a little washed out, and I went to adjust the contrast, but the more I look at it, I think it looks like one of those old time pictures of babies back in the 40's and 50's, with little sailor suits on. I like it! And I am really liking the fuzzified pictures with the diffuse glow. My taste, I know.....but I am doing the picture posting, so pppbbbbtt!! Prepare for lots of warm fuzzies!!

What's Love got to do with it??

There was a subway crash in Rome today, killing 2 people and injuring as many as 110 (reports vary).

Ethan was supposed to be on that train, but he and Tobias overslept and missed it, so they ended up taking a bus instead.

Why did he oversleep??

He waited until midnight (3pm our time) to call me and wish me a happy birthday and tell me that he loves me. And he didn't get on the train.

He loves me

So Ethan is in Amsterdam, and he can't get his email to work, and the phone card won't work either. But he is having a good time and he loves me.

How do I know this if he can't call or email me?? He proposed a trade to me in one of our fantasy football leagues. I automatically get emailed when someone proposes a trade, and there is a comment section where you can try to talk someone into trading players with you. He wrote his situation down in the comment section. How very Amersony. Fantasy football--connecting people across the world!

Amsterdam

So, they did not make it to Paris. There was some sort of flood in the tube and they ended up missing their train because of it. But....they had a great day. They did a walking tour of the city (guided), and Ethan said it was a lot of fun. They also sat in on some court cases, which Tobias of course loved....but Ethan said it was really interesting--they watched as a shoplifter with a few minor previous incidences was sentenced to 2 1/2 years. For shoplifting!! Not even a car!! Shoplifting!! I guess if the penalty is stiff enough, it really would make you think twice before you do the crime!! Ethan really liked the court part. Very educational and interesting at the same time.

Today, they are in Amsterdam. They had a 1200 flight in, and at this hour they are probably both sleeping (it is 1am there now), or partying. Hopefully partying. I hope they have a wonderful, wonderful time. The weather has really cooperated so far--it supposedly rained all day Friday, but when they landed in London at 6am, it was sunny and nice and has been nice the whole time. London!! Not rainy!! That is as common as Seattle.....(although it has been beautiful and sunny here all week. Thanks El Nin~o!!) So good weather, good friend, new city, new country---great times!!

Yet Another European Update!!!

Another one!!!!

Ethan called again!! Still very excited!! Yes!!! I do need this many exclamation points!!! And one more. !

Okay. Today, they went to the British Museum of War, a couple other museums, tried to go to Parliament but it was closed/in session/'crazy' (not sure what was going on.....). Food is still salty, but good. They went to a pub to watch Sunday football and had a good time. It was so busy, there were no tables, so they took over a foosball table and put their beers on it instead of a table. No one cared. And yes, the beers are warmer and flatter than here, but still good (according to Ethan).
They have spent a lot of time in the tube. Ethan says it is much better than BART in San Fransisco, and we LOVED BART, so it must be nice. He likes it because the trains come every 10 minutes or so, and there is very little waiting. Their funniest moment so far has been when they went into a tube station then decided to leave for some reason, then changed their mind.....their tickets no longer worked when they tried to get in, since they hadn't gone anywhere (the ticket thinks you are letting someone else in with you--cheating the system), and they were too embarassed to ask for assistance, so they just walked to the next stop and got on there.
Also, they went to a play called......I don't remember what it was called. Some sort of Monty Python comedy play. It was good.
Tomorrow, they are getting up at the crack of dawn to catch a train into Paris for the day. Check out the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumph, etc, then come home in the evening. They leave for Amsterdam Wednesday, and should have lots of fun there. I know they are going to the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum, and some coffee shops, but I am not sure what else. I heard something about Haarlem, but not sure. The world's largest flower market is there--75% of the worlds flowers go through there (it is a business flower market, not a joe blow buying a bouquet for his girl market). Massive flats of flowers come in, people bid on them, then they are loaded onto trucks and sent all over the world.

On the homefront

What I am doing:

I had a fencing guy come measure the lot so I can get a quote for fencing. I will call him today, since he came on Saturday and I still have no emailed quote....

I bought a fireplace mantel off of eBay that is very similar to one that Ethan and I looked at a month or so ago and he really liked.....but this one is 1 foot longer (Woohoo!! Hard to find!!), we wanted a longer one, so this is great.

I am off to Costco after work today to get some pictures printed to complete the fireplace wall--one of them printed too big last time and looked funky in the frame. We will have a nice, put-together wall when Ethan comes home!!

Mom agreed to move the lawnmower from the hook on the wall to the center of the garage so I can be ensured of it being spider free. The lawn desperately needs to be mowed. It had all died off with the dryness of this summer, and was brown and ucky, but SHORT, but now that it is rainy again, it is all sprouted up again. Dammit......We are gonna (me) rip it all up and smooth the area out to make 2 or 3 sort of levels with a patio and some nice plants of my choosing with wood chips (the teeny ones, not the big ugly ones at the street right now).

Mom also agreed to move the carcass of the spider Ethan killed before he left (it was enormous, we saw it on the back wall of the garage as we opened the door and the headlights of the car hit it.) Enormous. Ethan whacked it with a piece of wood, and it is lying there and it really scares me. Hopefully mom will move it somewhere when I am NOT there to see.

AND...Boo is puking again, so I will get him new food to try. He refuses to eat the healthy food I bought that is non-pukey, so I am going to try different ones until I get to one that works. It is totally food specific--I gave him some soft food yesterday that he had not had before, and he puked within the hour. Definitely related. Does okay with the healthy soft food, but does not like it much. Still working on it........poor little guy. He doesn't have enough body weight to be puking that much!!

ANOTHER UPDATE

I just checked my email and Ethan sent me an email!

Yes, this is exciting.

AND...he will call me tonight!! Before midnight!!! AND......he says he love me!!! I told him that Battlestar Galactica premiered a 2 hour episode on Friday (which we did not realize was happening), but I found out a couple hours ahead of time and taped it, and will tape this week's episode, etc, so when he gets home we have them all. Along with Lost for this and next week. Yippee!!

It just totally made my day to see that email from him.

Update to the European Adventure

Okay, I got my first phone call from London last night. At midnight. Which was fine, because hey--it was Ethan!!

Impressions of London: Everything is so expensive!!
What he has seen so far: A bus and boat tour of the city, Big Ben, and 'a whole lot of museums and libraries'. He is hoping to go to Buckingham Palace today and see the changing of the guards
Cost for our 5 minute phone call: Over $10

Where is Ethan now??

To be honest, I am not sure when they leave London for Amsterdam, and when they leave Amsterdam for Rome. But, here is where they are staying

http://www.jamesandcartref.co.uk/
Located 5 minutes from Buckingham Palace, close to the Victoria Station tube station. Not a whole lot of info on their website, but great location and decent price.

http://www.hotelkeizershof.nl/
Right in the center of town, a teeny 4 room hotel that is walking distance from everywhere.

http://www.gulliversplace.com/home.htm
My personal favorite. 5 minutes from the main train station, 10 yards from the bus to the Vatican (15 minute bus ride), 8 minute bus ride from the Colosseum. Awesome!! Rooms look really nice, rates are LOW, location is perfect. If you look CLOSELY at the pictures....they have Harry Potter on the nightstands!!

He's off to see......(probably not a wizard)

But just about everything else!! He called me from New York on his cell phone during a layover yesterday, and now he is in London (per CNN, his plane did NOT crash...) He can't use the cell phone in Europe, so he's got to find a big red phone booth to call me (Rick Steves says this is the cheapest way to go, so that is what they are doing).
Who is Rick Steves?? I think Ethan and I were the only ones who didn't know. Apparently he is THE travel guru for Eurpoe. Tobias bought 5 different Rick Steves books--one for England, one for The Netherlands, one for Italy, Europe through the Back Door, and a general Europe one. They are prepared. Actually, I don't think either of them read any of these books, because I *did* read them, and spouted out all sorts of facts I learned, and each time it was news to the both of them. Whatever. I know what *I* would do in Europe....

So....I called the fence people at Alki Fence, and the guy came out and measured to give me a quote for some fencing, and he will email me later with some quotes. I hope I can get it put in before Ethan comes home--that was the plan. I am also trying to find a mantle online. We saw some on eBay, but I want one 6 feet long or longer, and they have mostly 5 foot ones. I will keep looking.......

I am off to PaperZone for a 20% off sale, to get some scrapping inspiration, then home to watch the Bourne Supremacy and do a bit of scrapping. I watched Akeelah and the Bee last night (good), and have some chick flicks coming via Blockbuster online, so I am set for now......

LOST

Okay, I kinda suck. It's been awhile since I last posted, but I really have been busy. We missed the last half of last season's LOST episodes, since we forgot to tape a couple because of Sonics games. We decided to stop watching and just rent the DVDs to catch up. Which we did. So good! And last night was the first episode of the 3rd season. Really, sorta sucked. A bit of a let down. I am sure the series will be fine, but I wanted to see all the people!! The island!! Charlie!! Locke! All that good stuff. I will tape the episodes that come up these next few weeks and watch them with Ethan when he gets back.

Ethan!! Getting back!! He leaves tomorrow. So excited!! We bought a new digital camera for him to take (the old one was only 2.1 megapixels and way past its prime, and he didn't want to take my behemoth), and it is really cool. It can do little videos and has all these dummy settings, some with outlines that show up on the viewfinder thingy that show you where to put the people in the picture, and it can recognize faces and know where to focus. Pretty cool, and pretty cheap!! Only $129, plus the memory card.
I am so excited about his trip. I want to see all the pictures he takes and hear all the stories. I am living vicariously through him......
This is cool, though. Before, I was skeptical if we would ever 'do' Europe. Now, I know we will. I wanted a 2 week trip, and Ethan was leery--wanting just 1 week trips like we have already done, but now he is open to trying it. I want to go to Rome and Athens and the Vatican and some little Greek isles for a couple weeks. It will be great!! Maybe in 2008 (next years vacations are already set).

So....lots of scrapping, maybe sewing (if I can find the machine and if there are no spiders around while I try to find the maching.....), work in between, lots of good stuff. Sabrina, Kael, Raegan and Mom are coming up for a weekend, which should be great. I wanna carve pumpkins together to put on my stoop so kids will want to trick-or-treat at my house this Halloween, and we might go to the salon to have some eyelash dyeing as well. Lots of fun!!
