Per my travel bible, our plan was to take the metro up to Sacre Coeur, a church on top of a hill in the north of Paris that overlooks the city. We got there, and planned to take the funincular up to the church itself (sort of a diagonally moving elevator that climbs up the hill), but there was a very long line there........so we took the stairs. Well over 100, but I lost count. It was sunny and warm and we were sweating it up.
This picture only shows the top portion of stairs--the hill gets steeper and goes on for quite a bit below this grassy area. Note the people sitting on the grass. As you will find out later, this is one of very few places in Paris where grass-sitting is allowed.
